At LeapThru®, we strive to deliver high quality, reliable software that can deliver invaluable information and assistance. Still, it is important to use the LeapThru® LeapConnect™ Caregiving Platform with caution and with an understanding of the limitations of technology. Caregiving, after all, is still first and foremost a human endeavor. Here is some important information regarding the use of medical data, information and related features, such as Medical Reminders and the Medical Profile (sometimes referred to as the “Care Profile”), with the LeapThru® LeapConnect™ Caregiving Platform.
Caution on Usage & System Limitations #
Do not use LeapThru®, including features such as Medicine Reminders or the Medical Profile, as the primary information delivery system for medical information, as the primary source for ensuring medication compliance or adherence, as an emergency detection device or as a substitute for checking in with the care recipient!
The care recipient is fully responsible for taking the correct medicine prescriptions at the correct times as directed by their physician. LeapThru® is not responsible for the accuracy or the delivery of Medicine Reminders. It is up to the care recipient and permissioned care team members to ensure that any medical and prescription information entered is accurate and kept up to date.
The accuracy and effectiveness of these features, including the speediness of related alert notifications, is highly dependent on different aspects of the 3rd party device itself (i.e., the smartphone or smartwatch) and user-input information that are not within LeapThru’s® control. As well, while reminder events will still appear on the smartphone or smartwatch without a live Internet connection, a live Internet connection is still required to transmit user responses to the LeapConnect™️ Portal and to permissioned care team members in a timely fashion.
And so, LeapThru® features, such as Medical Reminders and the Medical Profile are intended and should only be used as an additional reminder tool and source of information.
Medical Information that is Viewable on a Care Recipient’s Connected Smartphone & Smartwatch #
It is important to remember that when the care recipient is logged into their LeapThru® smartphone application and/or LeapThru® smartwatch application (“LeapThru® VIP for Care Recipients”, LeapThru® VIP for Wear OS), medical information is viewable by anyone with access to that device.
This was done purposely to allow urgent responders to have access to the Medical Profile if desired by the care recipient.
Remaining logged into the LeapThru® application is necessary in order to:
> Receive LeapThru® reminders through the device,
> View the Medical Profile on the LeapThru® application itself,
> Gather device sensor information for LeapThru® and
> Interact with the LeapThru® LeapConnect™️ system.
If the care recipient does not want Urgent Responders to have immediate access to their Medical Profile but would like to remain logged into their LeapThru® account, we would suggest locking their phone with password protection for added security. Remember, entering any medical information into LeapThru® is optional to the end user and can be edited or removed on the LeapThru® LeapConnect™️ Portal.
Placement of Medical Information on LeapThru® VIP for Care Recipients & LeapThru® VIP for Wear OS Applications #
Medicine Reminders
When the care recipient is logged into their LeapThru smartphone and/or smartwatch application (“LeapThru® VIP for Care Recipients”, LeapThru® VIP for Wear OS) but the phone is locked, alert notifications for the medication reminders will appear on the care recipient’s connected smartphone and smartwatch in the notification drawer or on the home screen. Those alert notifications will show “Medicine Alert” but will not contain any specific medical information until opened. If the LeapThru® application is already opened on an unlocked phone, the specific medical reminder with medicine information will pop-up for viewing and responding to.
Medicine reminders and other types of events can be viewed by selecting “Today’s Activities” button from the home screen. This includes the specific details of each reminder and event.
Medical Profile
As well, any and all information entered into the care recipient’s Medical Profile, such as medication information, is viewable on the care recipient’s smartphone LeapThru® application “LeapThru® VIP for Care Recipients” by selecting the “Medical Profile” link on the home screen.
General Reminders, Wellness Checks, Destination Checks
General Reminders, Wellness Checks and/or Destination Check Reminders would behave similarly as a Medical Reminders, however they may additionally have a title or subject heading that may also appear on the alert notification itself when viewed on the lock screen or in the notification drawer. That is important to keep in mind when creating the title or subject header of the event. The remaining details are then viewed on the screens of the event itself.

Remotely Log Out of LeapThru® VIP for Care Recipients & LeapThru® VIP for Wear OS Applications #
In the event the care recipient has lost their smartphone or smartwatch (or just needs to be logged out for some reason), they can be remotely logged out of their LeapThru® VIP application (assuming the device is on and functioning correctly with a live Internet Connection) via the LeapConnect™ Portal by themselves or permissioned care team members:
>> Logout from LeapThru® VIP for Care Recipients (smartphone application)
>> Logout from LeapThru® VIP for Wear OS (smartwatch application)
Placement of Medical Information on the LeapThru® Care for Caregivers Application #
Care notifications are delivered to the caregiver either as app notification alerts to a smartphone or as emails if the caregiver has not logged into the caregiver app.
Once the caregiver has logged into the caregiver app for the first time, they will then get caregiver notifications via app alerts instead of emails.
Regardless of delivery method, the care notifications themselves provide a high level summary of a potential situation. If a caregiver is logged into their LeapThru® Care for Caregivers smartphone app, they will receive care notifications for those areas they have permission to view. Then, the caregiver can click on the notification (or click on the link in the email) to either open the LeapThru® Care for Caregivers smartphone app or login through the LeapThru® LeapConnect™️ Portal to view more details and take any related actions.
In the LeapThru® Care for Caregivers smartphone app, the Overview screen and the subsequent Attention screen contain more specific details on the caregiver notifications.
In the LeapThru® LeapConnect™️ Portal, care notification details and related events can be found in a number of different screens and views, including (but not limited to) the Dashboard, Timeline, Adherence and Calendar pages.
